Granny D nears DC! Doris "Granny D" Haddock is on the last leg of her journey across the country. For over a year Ms. Haddock, known to many as "Granny D", has been walking from coast to coast to draw attention to the need for campaign finance reform.  She began her trek in California, Jan. 1, 1999 and walks ten miles a day. This amazing woman celebrated her 90th birthday on January 24, 2000, at the 3000 mile mark of her trip.  As we sit out the harsh winter in the comfort of our nice warm homes, this remarkable Elder is cross country skiing through WV on the way to Washington DC.  If all goes as schedualed, Ms. Haddock and supporters will arrive in DC February 29, 2000.  We are hoping that a strong contingent from the Pagan community will show up "Leap Day" to keep Ms. Haddock company for the last few miles of her trek.  Complete details regarding Ms. Haddock's adventure are available on her website at: http://www.grannyd.com/ This is a VERY TENETIVE schedual of events for Ms. Haddock's arrival in DC. Tuesday, February 29 9:00 a.m. Assemble at Arlington Cemetery Metro stop (aboveground) 9:45 a.m. Doris delivers short welcome to walkers 10:00 a.m. Line up, walk across Memorial Bridge 10:30 a.m. Remarks at Lincoln Memorial by Mayor(?) & Doris. 11:00 a.m. Depart Lincoln Memorial, walk past war memorials, along Reflecting Pool to 17th Street, then north on 17th St. to Farragut Square on K Street 11:45 a.m. Farragut Square Short remarks by Doris, street theater event Event moves east along K Street to McPherson Square (15th St.). 12:45 p.m. Depart McPherson Square, walk south on 15th to Pennsylvania Ave, thence to Capitol. Walking with Members of Congress and volunteers. 1:30 p.m. Event on the east (Supreme Court) side of Capitol, Senate end.  Welcome speeches my Members of Congress. A Doris scorcher. 2:15 p.m. Hill visitation by walkers. Deliver a copy of Granny's 25-word Congressional pledge, and invite Congressmen to individually sign pledge and join Doris for tea under a tree between Congress and the Supreme Court.   7:00 p.m. Granny's Chicken & Dumplings dinner for walkers, to be held at historic St. Mark's church behind the Library of Congress (two blocks from Congress). Speeches and a vigil, and room to sleep for those who want to camp at the church (max. 60 campers). Wednesday Morning (Mar. 1) and onward Doris live interview on NPR's Diane Rehm Show. Doris begins her watch at her tea table. Major speech that night at unknown venue regarding a selected Senator's voting record as it relates to his campaign contributions. Another the next night.  This may go on for some time.  Most walkers will not be able to stay, but some may coordinate schedules for ongoing support.  Doris intends to get the votes needed for passage of McCain-Feingold in the Senate. Supportive non-violent events are planned by others.
