Read your horror story. Did you know about the settlement between CompUSA and NY State's Attorney's Office? Go to: www.oag.state.ny.us/press/2001

Seems you are not the only one screwed by this company. I normally shop at Radio Shack but happened to purchase a small computer accessory from the Emeryville, CA store, near to my home in Berkeley. Clerk told me to use a screwdriver and open my tower to install (Myself!) a port. Imagine? Anyway, I found that I have one on the tower so I try to take the thing back. Customer Service Rep says absolutely not without a receipt. I have two little girls and must have misplaced my receipt. Manager tried to look up my purchase with my credit card, I must have paid cash, he said it was not in their system. What a mess. Their return policy is posted on the sales counter. Returns within fourteen days with receipt. It should go further and say, absolutely no returns without a receipt! This is the non-disclosure, adhesive policy that NY Attorney got them to cease.
I was so upset at the way I was treated that I left the item, still in the box, at the register in front of other customers and promised never to return. A lady in line, middle aged perhaps, said she too would never come back.
I am going to write to HP, and the corporate office of CompUSA and NY Attorney's Office and possibly our counties District Attorney's Office. Good luck in your pursuits,
