Subject: computer replacement-extended warranty

I found your info. listed under "warrantech" so I thought you might have some ideas to my problem.  Long story but interesting..I purchased my orig. PB CPU from a store named "Lechmeres"  back in 97 for 1499.00  and also purchased extended warranty and home service for 48 mos.   Not long after purchasing it I started having hardware problems.  Around the second repair the fact of the serial # on the mother board not matching the paperwork too.  But TOO late now.  Lechmere's was gone.

PB repaired it a couple more times while lots of rebooting and loss of info. went on. Finally in 10/99 the last home visit,  the tech. put in for replacement because he informed me that it wasn't even worth trying to repair it.  Too many things not working.   After not hearing anything in another month I finally called  to inquire as to why I hadn't heard about it.   I was then informed that it had been misplaced but at least now it's in the making.   This is "Warrantech" I am doing all the communication with now.  Extended warranty.   Finally dragging into 12/99 now I called in again and after quite a few calls I was informed that they do not have to replace it with a PB, Pentium  either.  Just a computer of equal or bettervalue.  They had kind of talked me into an Acer  and after
a little research I agreed to it and should recieve it within 2 wks.  After not recieving it I called again.  Now I was informed that because of Xmas coming that they are quite backed up now so I have no choice but to accept an Compaq instead " not a Pentium, no SB!^ sound card,no internal Zip drive, no TV card, no media select and forget all the software too.

But because it supposedly had so much more memory I had no complaints.End of conversation.  I found it on my porch one day,  didn't even have to sign for it which seemed strange to me but what could I do?  After opening the box I find out the serial # on the CPU doesn't even match the reciept  that came with it. They said that shouldn't matter for future repairs or anything. Now after installing I find my scanner isn't compliable  so now I have to wait for a replacement of that.  After installing it I can install my printer now but when I try to print a test page it's informing theres not enough memory.  Can't do it  I guess.  I sometimes had 3 large adventure games plus my on-line and quite a few other things on my original PB but never had a problem with memory.  Sounds strange doesn't it.  This cpu has SOOO much more memory.    Don't think so.

After doing more research on line  I finally found this make of Compaq 5441, "REFURBISHED" too. for 399.00 without monitor.  Thats probably why I had so much trouble looking it up in the first place.  I've already been on line with their tech.'s for hours at a time and they already came up with the
conclusion of something being bad in the CPU. Already had to reboot this thing too many times.
Now I contacted the BBB and am still trying to either get 1 of equal or better value ($1499.00 not including a monitor or printer either, on sale too) My first computer never worked right to begin with but Lechmere's had skipped town.

My extended warranty  was still good until 2001 but lost the rest of that too.  Now the BBB got their reply stating that " They aren't going to change anything because this CPU has alot more memory than my PB did.Warrantech isn't responsible for any problems once the consumer accepts the system either,  even though I never even got a chance to sign for it or accept it.,(no warranty either, I guess)  Compaq is responsible because it must just be a software problem."  They do make them with SB sound cards, Internal Zip drives,TV cards and all the other things I am missing now. But they would
have had to pay the  higher price like I did.

I know this was long but wondered if you might have any suggestions.  I'm writing BBB back with my denial  of warrantech reply but don'tknow how far I'll get.  Thanks for reading this LONG  message.  I only wrote you since I found you under  the heading "warrantech"
Thanks Alot for listening.
