I bought a compusa brand(offbrand-no brand) computer on May 30 1999. In November i installed an Iomega cd rewriter that I bought from - who else- compusa. It worked fine for about a month, then the computer stopped recognizing the cdr. I assumed it was the cdr that had gone bad and after some help from iomega's help line they sent a replacement. It still didn't work so I called compusa warranty line and after much trying of different things they decided it was a faulty motherboard and directed me to take it to compusa for a repair. When I took it to chumpusa (80 miles away) they made sure I knew that by opening the case I had probably voided the warranty and if it was related to my install it would cost me 99.95. Fine(if my install which was working fine was the problem). this was on Feb 11. on Feb 21 I called them as I had heard nothing. Oh yes he says, I called you on Feb 14 but no answer, (this was why I gave them my work number - I work for a living-). we need the drivers to re-install the cdr. I said don't worry about the cdr I can re-install it what about the motherboard. He knew nothing about that ------except if it was the motherboard it would cost 99.95. he will run tests and call me back, PROMISE. Later when I CALLED THEM BACK. He says the tests show the motherboard is fine. If it is not the cdr then the warranty is voided and I must pay for replacing the motherboard and the extended warranty covers things differently than the regular warranty. He can check other ways to see if it is the motherboard. He will call and see how much the new mother board will be and call me in 3 days. MY QUESTION IS IF THE TESTS SHOW IT IS NOT THE MB WHY DOES HE NEED TO DO OTHER TESTS?

WHY DOES ONE WARRANTY COVER MY INSTALL BUT NOT THE FACTORY WARRANTY? WHO EXPLAINS THESE THINGS AT TIME OF SALE? WHO MAKES UP THESE CALL ONE TIME THEN FORGET THE CUSTOMER POLICIES AND WHY? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH FIFTEEN MINUTES ON LONG DISTANCE LISTENING TO SOME BULLSHIT COMPUTER MESSAGES TO FINALLY TALK TO SOMEONE THAT NOT ONLY DOESN"T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT LONGTIME CUSTOMERS BUT DOESN"T KNOW WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT ANYWAY? As it turns out the 99.95 they kept talking about was to install the cdr(which wasn't the problem anyway) since they kept overlooking the fact that is was the motherboard which was the problem. In 5 days I will go 80 miles again to pick my chumpusa computer back up and buy a new computer from Best Buy, never to return to chumpusa.
